Hello folks. I tried to use an Amstrad floppy drive in my new pc in order to transfer Kermit to my amstrad. Everything else worked, winXP identifies the floppy drive etc. "device seems to be working proplerly". BUT. As i insert the floppy in the drive, The floppy drives motor does not start to rotate. And, i get this message "Put a disk in drive a:". Does this have something to do with those jumpers in the floppy drive? JP1 they are marked. Floppy drives part number is AMSTRAD PT NO 40046. Or, is it possibly my atx power supply which is the problem? The reading head of the drive moves when booting the computer (search for boot sector... ) Any ideas how should i proceed?

Now i tried with windows xp:s command prompt, "format a: " and the reply was "device not ready"... Windows explorer says that there is no diskette inside the drive... i´m getting quite desperate with this lil fella.

You said the motor does not spin? It could be the the motor has died (unlikely?) or more probably the drive belt is slipping/ broken so the disc does not spin.

I think that even if you manage to make it work, XP will not be able to deal with a single head disk drive (the amstrad one). That the device is not ready probably means that a READY signal is not read by the XP.
Just yesterday I met on the internet someone who tried to do the same, there is also an article somewhere out there... Try to locate it using google.
Good luck!
