how do i format on 3'' disc. i have 10 unformatted 3'' disc. how? in basic?

There are no basic commands that allow you to format a disc. Some disc utility programs that were available allow you to format a disc...one that I have used is 'oddjob'. Amongst other things such as disc copying and sector editing etc was the option to perform a 'fast format'. You could do all the nomal formats such as 'data' and 'system' etc considerably quicker than the CP/M 'format' program. One thing I have noticed though is that the 'oddjob' format does not 'check' the disk for errors as well as the CP/M format, so some discs that fail a CP/M format will pass an 'oddjob' fast format.
The usual way of formatting a disc is with the CP/M disc that came with a 664/6128/DDI-1 using the 'format' or 'disckit' programs.
If you have not got any of these but are able to copy stuff from you PC to CPC then you will be able to find .DSK images of the CP/M discs.
